Description: Ether cards are 'physical ether'. They're a quick and convenient way to give ether, tokens, or other blockchain assets to friends and family, and a great way to introduce people to the power of the Ethereum blockchain.
Ether Cards is a project of Nick Johnson (Developer at Ethereum Foundation) and Arachnid Labs. They sell printed Ether cards, where each card has its own unique Ethereum address, printed at the back of the card in QR code and text form. The private key for the address is hidden under a scratch-off panel.
Note: These Ether cards are sold WITHOUT any Ether pre-loaded.
How To Give Ether Cards As Gift
- Buy Ether Cards from the link above
- Check that the private key panels of the cards are undamaged when you receive them
- Deposit some Ether or tokens (on Ethereum blockchain) into the addresses shown on the cards via any wallets or MyEtherWallet
- Gift the Ether Cards to your loved ones and introduce them to Ethereum
Any balance stored on the card (up to 5 Ether) are guaranteed by the site. If you are able to produce an Ether Card whose private key panel is undamaged, but whose account has outgoing transactions (i.e. private key is compromised), the site/company will refund the lost balance (up to 5 Ether). The holding contract for all the insurance funds are located at here.
However, even with that security precaution, it is not recommended to store large amounts of Ether within the card’s Ethereum address. Ether Cards are intended to be used for low value gifts and payments, and as an easy way to introduce people to the power of the Ethereum blockchain.
Some of the Ether Cards’ designs are shown below. Please visit Ether Cards for more designs.
